STA Statement in Support of MTA Capital Plan

September 25, 2024

STA strongly supports MTA’s proposed $68.4 billion 2025-2029 Capital Plan, recognizing its critical role in modernizing and enhancing New York’s transportation infrastructure. The continued investment in this program not only ensures safer, more reliable transit for millions of New Yorkers but also provides essential opportunities for subcontractors who are at the heart of our city’s construction workforce.

The MTA Capital Plan is a pillar for sustainable growth, job creation, and economic resilience. Our association has long advocated for public investment in infrastructure projects that provide subcontractors, including minority and women-owned businesses, with opportunities to participate in building and maintaining New York;s transportation networks. We are committed to ensuring that these businesses have equitable access to the MTA’s projects and that the skilled trades have a central role in delivering world-class infrastructure.

As we continue to face economic uncertainties and increased operational costs, public programs like the MTA Capital Plan offer stability for subcontractors while ensuring that the city’s infrastructure keep space with the demands of its residents and businesses. We look forward to partnering with the MTA to build a safer, more efficient transit system and to ensure that New York’s construction workforce remains strong, skilled, and diverse.
