Arrowsight, Inc.

When was your firm founded?
2002

Who founded your firm?
Adam Aronson, our CEO

Where is your firm based?
Our headquarters is in Katonah, NY, and we have an operations center in Huntsville AL.

How big is your firm?
We have about 100 employees across our two locations

Is the company a family-owned business?
No, we are privately held.

What type of subcontractor are you?
We are a site safety service provider that performs “remote video auditing” (RVA) of worksite activity. Subcontractors hire us to raise their safety performance to the highest levels and reduce insurance and productivity costs.

What have been some of the firm’s major accomplishments; major projects?
In 2018, we worked with a NY-based civil contractor to reduce highly dangerous at-risk acts and conditions involving live load handling and energized equipment by 90%. This in turn led to a reduction in injury-related claims of 67% and a reduction in associated costs of over 80%.

Where does Your firm operate-just NY or other areas?
We serve customers across the US and around the globe. We have built a significant presence in the meat processing industry, where approximately 60% of all beef, poultry, and pork produced in the US uses our services at some point in the production cycle. Further, our services are used in several large hospitals: in one example, wrong-site surgeries were virtually eliminated; in another, surgical site infections were reduced by 20%. In all these cases, the cost of our services is a small fraction of the cost reductions gained by our clients.

What have been some of the unique traits of the firm?
Our service is known as “game film for business.” While video has long been used for security purposes, or in episodes for targeted interventions, we developed RVA as a distinct, best-in-class, and continuous video-based methodology that delivers both strong ROI and sustained performance improvement in very challenging work environments.

How has your firm been involved in the construction industry? (Associations, etc.)
We began working in construction in 2018. In 2019, we joined the BTEA, the AGC in New York, and the STA. In September, we will be presenting at the annual construction conference of Willis Towers Watson, a leading global insurance and risk management advisory firm.

What are some challenges the firm has overcome?
We have overcome both the emotional and logistical challenges of using video on New York construction sites that use union labor. By working hard to promote safety best practices, we have overcome the “Big Brother” aspect of video in the workplace; workers have become very comfortable with us. By using portable cameras that re-charge overnight, we can monitor virtually any work site, and by working with IT resources we can usually have our video audit done overnight and ready the next day, every day.

What does the firm think its legacy has been for the NY construction industry?
It’s too soon to know – we’ve only just begun! We believe we will have a tremendous impact on the lives of workers and a resulting reduction in insurance costs, which here in New York are the highest in the USA.

Why did you join the Subcontractors Trade Association?
We joined the STA to meet subcontractors who are interested in achieving very high safety performance.
